TURNOVER® is WATERLEAU's proprietary rotary kiln incineration technology. A rotary kiln is a horizontally mounted large metal tube with a refractory lining. Products are incinerated in the kiln, which slowly rotates, thereby crea ting the necessary mixing and transport action.
The total installation in which the TURNOVER® rotary kiln is mounted is in principle similar to the energy-from-waste plant described above. The waste is not incinerated on a grate however, but in a slowly rotating kiln in which waste is fed at regular intervals. In contrast to a grate furnace, the TURNOVER® rotary kiln can accept liquid or slurry waste and also toxic waste. There are no siftings. Rotary kilns have a limited throughput capacity.
The flue gases are cooled in separate off gas boiler, which for evident reasons cannot be integrated in the furnace. For toxic waste required minimum combustion temperature may be higher than for MSW (e.g. 1100°C). This requires a special design of the post combustion chamber (PCC).
The TURNOVER® rotary kiln enables a variation of feeding systems to be used: a ram feeder for solid waste, a drum feeding station, lances for liquids or the DYNAFLUID® multi fluid thermal oxidiser.
